 The Chinese Crested is one of the exotic dogs that's making a splash in international markets. A little dog, this breed is known for its hairless variety. This dog breed sports a bald body, and a leonine mane (crest) of medium, silky hair on its head, hocks, pasterns and tail. The "Powder Puff" dog has silky hair all over. Colors differ within the standard dog hair colors. A full-grown male adult or female will reach 11 to 13 inches high. This puppy resembles in size and body-type to the much-loved Chihuahua.
Small canine breeds tend to be extremely popular with apartment dwellers as they take up little space and are easy to take care of in an urban environment. This breed generally thrives on an indoor lifestyle, most particularly in colder temperatures. Hairless canines like this one are not well suited for outdoor living and cold temperatures. So if the Chinese Crested catches your fancy, look for the Powder Puff type with a full hair coat that will help keep your dog warm during the cold season. Dog-owners in hot temperatures will
realize that the hairless Crested dog breed to be ideal, though sunscreen is imperative if the Chinese Crested puppy will be in direct sun for any length of time. Skin allergies are common with this little breed, so be aware of unusual reactions and treat them promptly at a trusted vet.
