There must be given plenty of thought given to the breeding of dogs but if one plans ahead and uses a little imagination, many of the difficulties will vanish.
For instance, the food problem can be greatly simplified by becoming friendly with a butcher who does his own killing. Heads and lungs, which ordinarily go into fertilizer, can be a big item in the daily diet of your dogs. Cooking them is work, and if undertaken in a small kitchen may give rise to the exchange of pungent remarks between the members of a marital partnership, but your dogs will appreciate it even if the little lady does not.
When mixed with damaged loaves of bread, which may be bought very cheaply from any bakery, this meat and broth more than cut my feed bill in half, and the dogs thrived on the diet. However, do not attempt to feed this alone to your dogs.
In conjunction with prepared dog foods it is excellent, but when fed alone it does not supply the necessary vitamins, minerals, and roughage which are contained in
the commercial foods. The fact that this meat and bread may be obtained is no news to those who have bred dogs before, but to the utter novice it may be a useful tip.
Another thing to keep in mind is that dogs are like human beings in this respect: the better their surroundings and the healthier the dogs, the better their offspring will be. Children born in the slums, or puppies whelped under adverse conditions, seldom reach the top in physical development. Therefore, before the subject of breeding is touched upon, the beginner would do well to study what goes to make a healthy and contented dog.
What is the most important thing in a dog's life? At the risk of being laughed to scorn, I am going to answer that with one word: love. I do not mean maudlin sentimentality, but honest love. As in man, I believe that this is the first requisite to real happiness, and that food comes a poor second.
If the prospective breeder does not love dogs, he should keep away from them. The man or woman who breeds purely for monetary reward never yet produced a puppy which went to the top, or even well up, in his breed. Given the opportunity, a dog can supply most of his bodily needs himself, but not love, that mystic relation between dog and master.
That, to my mind, is the first and greatest commandment in the breeding of dogs. Love them and understand them, but do not shower them with maudlin affection. No dog wants to have baby talk burbled at him all day.
Remember, the only words he understands are those which have been taught to him by constant drilling. Treat him with dignity, except during his romping periods, and he will respect you for it. It is possible that I attribute more intelligence to my dogs than they actually possess, but I would rather err in that direction than by underestimating them.
No two puppies are ever exactly alike, either in physical qualities or in temperament; yet the laws of heredity are demonstrated in each one.. Some day it is my ambition to line breed a dog and bitch, and then at every opportunity to breed this same pair, keeping records from start to finish. In this way, I shall have a chance to observe the laws of heredity actually at work.
But that is for the future. For the present, like most other breeders, I must rely on the invaluable work which has been done by investigators such as Mendel and Morgan.
It has been said that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. That is as true in dog breeding as in anything else. A little knowledge may be dangerous, but if that little is balanced with common sense, a great deal may be accomplished. It will create a desire to know more, and the person who is willing to study this fascinating science will always be rewarded by finding something new.

The Samoyed dog breed is very gently, active, and affectionate. These dogs also tend to be very loyal to their owners. Despite the loyalty they are not anti social or aggressive. They love to go up to almost anyone for petting and love. They are sweet natured in temper. You will find they can bark to alert you of approaching cars or people, but lack the necessary skills to be great guard dogs. You will also find because of their sweet temper they do well with children. They dont mind a little rough behavior, but rather look out for the children. You will also find that the Samoyed can do well with cats and other dogs, but smaller passive animals may be in danger.
If you are interested in a dog breed that will complete your family and make you feel warm and safe you cannot do any worse than the sweet Samoyed. You will find that training can be a little difficult however. They can express a stubborn side when it comes to obedience. In this case you must be determined, consistent, and of course exhibit fairness. You will also need to provide a lot of different activities during training because they tend to become bored with the same activities. They do really well in cooler climates, which will help you keep them active. Part of training and care is going to be regular exercise for them. You need to allow them rest, but give them at least two hours of outdoor play time a day with walks, and toys. Warm weather is okay, but keep in mind they were raised for cooler temperatures and they will shed more.
The rest of the care for these animals of course includes proper water and food during playtime and after. You will also need to groom them on a daily basis. They need to have their coats brushed to get rid of tangles, matting, and of course dead or loose hair. You will find that the coat does trap dirt, but bathes arent really necessary as long as you keep them brushed. You may want to ask the breeder about giving them bathes to see how frequently it could be warranted. Most often dogs have trouble with bathes due to sensitive skin. A breeder should be able to answer any grooming questions you have about them. You can also speak with a vet for what to expect when you bring a Samoyed dog into your family. You should always contemplate the full requirements before adopting any dog breed.
Dogs make the greatest companions when you are seeking undivided devotion and affection. While not all dogs are as great as other breeds you will find there are plenty to choose from depending on what you are looking for. The Samoyed dog breed is considered a working dog, but they are also one of the gentlest dogs you will ever meet. Below you will find information regarding care, characteristics, and training that is required for this breed.
The Samoyed dog is a rather large dog compared to other breeds. The male species reaches 45 to 65 pounds, with the female at 35- 50 pounds. You will find height is between 19 and 24 inches. They are either white, biscuit, cream, or a mix of those colors. Their coat is thick and often made up of a medium length to long fur. They also have an undercoat which is less soft, but provides them with plenty of warmth. Their coat often reminds individuals of wool. You will find they are a close relation to Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes. They have the same face shape, body type and of course the curled tail.

PPE should always be used to prevent any accidents from happening whilst working in any business environment as well as with working with animals. PPE should be individually tailored to suit the needs of what act you are undertaking, if you feel there is not adequate PPE or it is not appropriate you should use alternative methods.
It is always important to use safe lifting techniques so you are able to prevent injury to yourself or possibly to others working around you as well as the animal that you are working with, so remember not to injure yourself or those around you by using bad lifting techniques this may advocate the animal also.
If you feel the dog is too heavy to be lifted up try using two persons within the facility to lift the animal and always ensuring both of you carry out the correct lifting procedures with the animal you are dealing with.
If the animal is wild or if it is of a bad temperament then always ensure you take precautions such as placing a muzzle over the dogs snout to prevent yourself from being bitten by the dog, also be wary of where the dogs claws are as they are capable of causing damage to both you and those around you.
Three Animal Care Utilities
Snake Hood:
This is a long piece of plastic with a metal hook on the end. You place the hook half of the way from the neck so not to damage any organs further down its body. You slide the hook gently under the snakes body and slowly lift it out.
Crush Cage:
This is the same style and shape of a wire pet carrier but has an extra piece of wire that goes along the length of the cage. You place the animal in the cage, lock it up and then push the extra piece of wire against the animal until its pushed against the other side of the cage.
Cat Grasper:
This is a long piece of metal with a grasper on the end. If youre trying to catch a wild or a boisterous cat its easy to use a cat grasper. You place the cat grasper round the back of the cats neck, without squeezing the grasper hard and not too far up the neck as you may choke it. The grasper keeps the cat in place so you can handle it easily and safely.
Looking after Dalmatians
Coat should be short, hard, dense, fine, sleek and glossy in appearance.
Equipment needed nail clippers, bristle brush, hound glove, chamois leather.
Grooming Procedure:
One of the joys of a smooth coasted breed is the ease of grooming. With Dalmatians, maintenance grooming is the key. A consensus of opinion regarding grooming is as follows:
Good nutrition with an emphasis on oils and saturated fats for a bright and shiny coat.
Adequate exercise for the development of good muscle tone.
Regular brushing with a rubber curvy comb or hound glove.
Bathe as necessary with a mild shampoo and a non-toxic bluing. Because the Dalmatian is pink skinned, it lacks the overall protective pigment; the skin reacts frequently to harsh shampoos, shampoos with additives and detergents. Non-toxic bluing whitens the coat without irritating the skin.
Nail clipping becomes difficult when the nails are black. A pen-light may be used to locate the quick before cutting. Short even nails help to keep the feel tight and encourage natural trotting ability.
Clipping excess facial hairs & whiskers gives the face a clean chiselled appearance.
